about
No Fly Zone is a collaboration between Iran-based musicians and artists, and Anika. Their names have been concealed for their own and loved-ones safety. They are known collectively as Ni Vash, a Persian word for "renewal“ or "regeneration“, reflecting the futuristic and transformative approach of the movement. Throughout the track, the words of Nasim Luczaj’s poem 'Anemone, Windflower' flow, like a skeleton, providing a framework for an uprising, a reason and a cause. The track was produced in Iran and mastered in Berlin.
In Iran or anywhere, people cannot fly, cannot see their dreams materialize, even through working hard or playing by the rules. Restrictions come in many forms, from without and from within - self or society, made by cultures, we are restricted. We are surrounded by voices without words, in a no fly zone.
'Anemones aka windflowers detect when the rain/storm is coming and close their flowers.'
Join us in the fight for human rights. Join us in the fight against government oppression. This is a world-wide fight. This is your fight.
Thanks for your support, Anika and Ni Vash.
Track available exclusively to purchase on Bandcamp.
All profits from this release go directly to support a UK-based charitable organisation, who are campaigning for human rights, for women's equality and the fight against government oppression via demonstrations, conferences and publications, offering legal support to those in need. They have asked to remain anonymous, for safety reasons.
lyrics
'anemone, windflower' by Nasim Luczaj
have you ever heard of wind without air?
deadened sky, who lies kneaded with silence
tell me a silence that won’t fit a prayer.
the sky’s black above blue, don’t you go there
start with the ground, lit brittle with radiance
sown with windflowers that grow without air.
the sky has a blueness we might not bear.
anemone, who knows the storm’s cadence
tell me a cadence that won’t fit a prayer.
eventually the sky will let down its hair.
you wait for it to reach you, your patience
like waiting for wind to give birth to air.
your body’s now lightning, too struck to care.
born into violence, fading to violence
tell me a violence that outruns a prayer.
open as those skies do, no matter where.
tear the ground up, sow space out of absence
give it movement, give it wind if not air.
tell us a freedom we need everywhere.

The former journalist made a name for herself in the electronic music scene with her experimental sound collages,
confrontational texts and unique way of performing live solo. Her breakthrough came in 2010 with the release of the cult-hit LP, ‚Anika‘ (Stones Throw /Invada), which she recorded with Beak> in Bristol, which began her long and winding road into the music, film, poetry and arts scenes....more

It's a lovely combination of psychedelia, shoegaze, and something else hard to define.

BEAK are the best live band I have ever seen. I follow their music religiously. Geoff Barrow is also a ridiculously nice person (I spoke with him on the phone once, that's my evidence, he was a proper legend). THIS BAND CAN DO NO WRONG. Texture
The second album from Hourlope is an experimental record topped with spoken word passages that conjure disctint worlds. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 7, 2022
