No ones coming, so stop looking. I'll tell you once and i'll tell you again. It's an invisible hand and a scapegoat and the Congress they're waiting for our answers. Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there It's no use in blaming it, for your blunders. Don't dwell on it, like it's some hidden rogue. It's all in what they tell us, none of it's true. It's a way to control you, so don't be the fool. Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there I know how the system works, I know how the people work. I know how the system works and it doesn't. We've all been to greedy and wanted what we couldn't have but the problem is they told us we could

about

A song written in 2008 about the initial reporting and reaction to the recession by various governments and world media. I was living in middle America at the time, hence the reference to the Congress. It was around the same time as the 2008 pre-election buzz and living in a swing state, i witnessed much campaign action.

Another thing i saw first hand was the drastic initial impact the economic downturn had on small towns in the mid-west, whose economy was built almost entirely around the motor trade, which was one of the most severely impacted areas.

In the UK, the media personified the recession as some kind of wolf that eats your children in the night, as oppose to the result of us and the Government spending beyond our means and subsequently crippling the economy. There was a lack of responsibility taken by both parties at the time and the Government had a tendency to shift all blame onto us as the consumers. We now find ourselves in the position of paying for these blunders through the incessant cuts.

We filmed the video a few months ago around Bristol and on Stokes Croft, before the recent riots. You'll notice things like the traffic light are standing straight as oppose to bent double and the absence of white outlines and paint splashes on the street, which happened during the aforementioned protests.

The imagery depicts the sheer number of buildings that have fallen into disrepair as a result of the economic crash. Saying that, many of these buildings have in fact been standing empty for the last two decades, even during the so-called years of plenty.

The film also plays on the literal meaning of no-one's there, using somewhat eery footage of empty Bristol streets. A metaphor at the time for people stopping to buy in the shops, which subsequently crippled the economy even more and worsened the problem.

// Lyrics
No ones coming,
so stop looking.
I'll tell you once and i'll tell you again.
It's an invisible hand
and a scapegoat
and the Congress they're waiting for our answers.

Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there
Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there

It's no use in blaming it,
for your blunders.
Don't dwell on it,
like it's some hidden rogue.

It's all in what they tell us,
none of it's true.
It's a way to control you,
so don't be the fool.

Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there
Stop looking over your shoulder no-one's there

I know how the system works,
I know how the people work.
I know how the system works
and it doesn't.

We've all been to greedy
and wanted what we couldn't have
but the problem is
they told us we could
